Nell'inglese di tutti i giorni, per indicare un herpes delle labbra, normalmente non si usa la parola “herpes”, ma l'espressione “cold sore”: Mi serve una crema per l'herpes, I need a cream for my cold sore. Il termine “herpes labialis” è utilizzato esclusivamente in ambito medico-scientifico. La parola “herpes”, usata da sola, indica di solito l'herpes genitale, pertanto è necessario fare attenzione quando si usa questo termine, che potrebbe essere considerato offensivo.
